Is it my water pump or something simple?

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo V6 3.2L 4X4. Earlier today, my husband went to pick up supper. When he got home, he said that the coolant was spewing out but, it wasn't overheating. He said he thought it may be a bad water pump. I let it cool off for a few hours. I popped the hood and turn it on. It isn't making any noise or anything. I did check the coolant level. It is empty. We just had the oil changed and other fluids like the coolant about two weeks ago so it should have been full. Does anyone know what is wrong with it? Any help would be appreciated.
