I live in the US and I sent a computer to the Philippines. My brother said the monitor is not working right.?

It goes to sleep mode automatically. Is it the monitor that needs to be replaced or is it something else? I've heard that monitors here don't work on the other side of the equator because of the magnetic field and I have to tune the monitor to make it work. Is that true?
